Description
The
WaveSwitch 9200 employs a two-stage non-blocking switching fabric. This
design provides high availability, high throughput and high port density.
The
core switching fabric is contained on up to four separate modules called
Common Matrix Modules (CMMs). The design of the core switching fabric
is extremely robust. As long as a single CMM is running, there is full
connectivity between ports.
The
outer switching fabric is contained on up to eight I/O modules, called
Gigamodules. The Router Accelerator Gigamodule provides Layer 3 switching
between local IP subnets. Maximal configurations are:
- 64 FDDI
SAS or 32 DAS ports
- 128 100BASE-TX
ports
- 128 100BASE-FX
ports
- 4 Router
Accelerators (Layer 3 switch)
The
WaveSwitch 9200 has powerful networking features grouped under the name
NextWave Switching. NextWave Switching increases performance by controlling
broadcast and multicast traffic and simplifies network operation by automatically
configuring network parameters.
New
applications requiring high speed file transfer or full motion video place
great demands on the network. The WaveSwitch 9200 combines raw switching
capacity with sophisticated network features to satisfy even the most
demanding applications.
Benefits
- Enables
high speed applications, including video, across the campus backbone
network
- Simplifies
your network, making a complex network operate like a "data utility"
- Controls
broadcast and multicast traffic through NextWave Switching features
- Increases
productivity of Network Management staff through automatic configuration
- Provides
high speed connectivity regardless of server or client location while
still allowing traffic segmentation as desired
- Protects
investment in existing network infrastructure
- Ensures
high availability through redundancy of critical components, including
the core switching fabric
