Broadband Wireless Networking for the Enterprise

The ORiNOCO AP-2000 11a Kit enables network managers to add support for the high speed 54 Mbps IEEE 802.11a standard to their existing AP-2000 802.11b or 802.11g networks. The Kit includes an 802.11a CardBus Card with integrated diversity antennas that provide excellent range. Simply slip the 802.11a CardBus Card into the second slot of the AP-2000, while it remains on the wall. The AP-2000 11a Kit supports the new Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) security standard. The 11a Kit in combination with the ORiNOCO AP-2000 Access Point and the AP-2000 11b/g Kit supports simultaneous tri-mode 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11a operation.

Higher data rate and throughput

The 5GHz band, which is less heavily used than the 2.4GHz, requires less bandwidth sharing, resulting in overall higher throughput. In addition, with more available radio channels, higher capacity systems can be deployed to allow more users in the same area to use the network simultaneously. The 5GHz band is also free from interferences such as from microwave ovens and cordless phones.

Extended Range

The AP-2000 11a Kit includes a customized antenna specifically designed for 5 GHz transmission, delivering increased performance and range. 

Support for WPA and VLAN

The AP-2000 11a Kit supports the new Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) security standard as well as a 16 VLAN configuration. 

Migration path for investment protection

The ORiNOCO AP-2000 11a Kit offers a cost effective solution to existing AP-2000 infrastructure so there is no need to replace complete access point units. The AP-2000 platform, with its 233MHz StrongArm 110 processor, has enough power to simultaneously support the new 54 Mbit/s 5GHz technology together with established 11Mbps Wi-Fi or even the 54Mpbs 802.11g technology.
