The ORiNOCO AP-2000 5GHz Kit enables network managers to add support for high speed IEEE 802.11a 54 Mbps to their existing AP-2500 802.11b network.

NOTE: Use of the AP-2000 11a Kit if upgrading the AP-2000 to support 802.11a. The AP-2000 11a Kit adds advanced capabilities such as support for WPA and multiple VLANs, which are not available on the AP-2000 5 GHz Kit. At this time, the AP-2000 11a Kit does NOT work on the AP-2500.

The AP-2000 Kit includes an 802.11a CardBus Card with integrated diversity antennas that provide excellent range. Simply slip the 802.11a CardBus Card into the second slot of the AP-2000, while it remains on the wall.

Higher data rate and throughput

The 5GHz band, which is less heavily used than the 2.4GHz, requires less bandwidth sharing, resulting in overall higher throughput. In addition, with more available radio channels, higher capacity systems can be deployed to allow more users in the same area to use the network simultaneously. The 5GHz band is also free from interferences such as from microwave ovens and cordless phones.

Extended Range

The AP-2000 5GHz Kit includes a customized antenna specifically designed for 5 GHz transmission, delivering increased performance and range.  

Migration path for investment protection

The ORiNOCO AP-2000 5GHz Kit offers a cost effective solution to existing AP-2500 infrastructure so there is no need to replace complete access point units. The AP-2500 platform, with its 233MHz StrongArm 110 processor, has enough power to simultaneously support the new 54 Mbit/s 5GHz technology together with established 11Mbps Wi-Fi or the new 54Mbps 802.11g technology.
