CDQPrima Application Note #1

Application: Broadcast monaural audio to as many as six locations:

With any CDQPrima 200 Series codec, you can easily send 10 kHz monaural audio to up to six locations simultaneously, using no external hardware. A 100 Series model supports up to two far end locations. You can also selectively monitor the return audio from any one of the six remote locations, and can switch between those locations at any time.

CDQPrima Application Note 1_0904

Here's what you need at the broadcast side:

  • Any 200 Series CDQPrima codec.
  • One to three ISDN terminal adapters. These could be any of the CDQPrima's internal ISDN terminal adapters, or any external terminal adapter you choose. Each terminal adapter lets you send audio to two locations.
  • One to three ISDN BRI lines, for a maximum of 6 ISDN 'B' channels. One 'B' channel is required for each far end location.

Here's what you need at each far end location:

  • Any MPEG Layer II compatible codec with 64 kb/s, 24 kHz sampling, monaural capability, such as our model CDQ1000, CDQ2000, CDQ2003, or CDQPrima.
  • ISDN accessibility.

Here's how to do it:

  • Set all the remote locations to 56 or 64 kb/s (all must be the same), monaural, 24 kHz sampling, single line operation, decoder independent.
  • Set the broadcast encoder and decoder to 56 or 64 kb/s, monaural, 24 kHz sampling. Set the encoder to single line mode, line 1. Set the decoder to independent operation, single line mode.
  • Dial all locations.
  • You can monitor the return audio from any one of the six far end locations by simply changing the decoder line format to the line you wish to monitor.
