AXIS 211 Network Camera
Superior video quality for professional indoor/outdoor uses The AXIS 211 Network Camera is designed for professional indoor and outdoor security surveillance and remote monitoring. It provides superior image quality using progressive scan and offers built-in support for Power over Ethernet, motion detection and advanced event management.
The AXIS 211 can deliver Motion JPEG and MPEG-4 video streams simultaneously, allowing for optimization in image quality and bandwidth. The MPEG-4 compression mode is ideal for applications where available bandwidth is restricted and higher frame rates are required.
The AXIS 211 connects directly to an IP network. With a built-in Web server, the AXIS 211 enables remote monitoring over a local area network or the Internet using a standard Web browser.
With built-in support for Power over Ethernet, the AXIS 211 is able to receive power through a network cable, which reduces installation cost and enables users to increase their security by consolidating the power source to a central location. The AXIS 211 fully supports the IEEE 802.3af standard and works with compliant midspans and switches. With Power over Ethernet, an Axis network camera can be set up in a way that enables it to continue to function even when there is a power failure. See Using Power over Ethernet.
Backed by the industry's largest base of application software for video and alarm management, the AXIS 211 is an ideal choice for securing offices, shops and other facilities.

Application possibilities:
Backed by the industry's largest base of software applications for video and alarm management, the AXIS 211 is ideal for security surveillance and remote monitoring applications.
- Education - Protect school building and equipment from vandalism and theft; improve safety for staff and students
- Retail - Protect staff and assets, verify transactions and cut down on false alarms
- Offices - Keep an eye on entrances, reception areas or queues
- Industrial - Monitor manufacturing lines, industrial and pharmaceutical processes, automation, warehouse and stock control systems
System overview:
- See also Using Power over Ethernet, which illustrates how you can make use of the AXIS 211's Power over Ethernet feature with Power over LAN Midspans from Axis.
What you need:
- A regular straight Category 5 or 6 Ethernet cable
- An available port on your hub, switch or router
Installation methods:
The AXIS 211 is designed for installation on an Ethernet network. This involves assigning it an IP address, automatically or manually. Depending on how your network is configured, the following methods may be used:
- AXIS Internet Dynamic DNS Service at www.axiscam.net
- UPnP (Universal Plug and Play)
- AXIS IP Utility for Windows
- From a command prompt, arp -s and ping may be used
- If you are using a home broadband router, you can view the router's administration pages to discover which IP address has been assigned to your AXIS 211.
Using Power over Ethernet:
The following set up shows how your network camera can receive power over a network cable and can continue to function even when there is a power failure.
Power over LAN Midspan
The Power over LAN Midspan is connected in between the switch/hub and the Power over Ethernet-enabled products such as the AXIS 211 Network Camera. It uses the unused pairs in a standard Cat 5 network cable to supply power to Power over Ethernet-enabled products that are up to 328 feet (100 meters) away.
An important feature is autodetection of Power over Ethernet-enabled (PoE) products, such as the AXIS 211 Network Camera. This means that power will only be delivered to products designed to accept power over the network and not to standard networked equipment such as desktop computer and laptops.
The Power over LAN Midspan can be connected to a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) device, which enables PoE-enabled devices, as well as non-PoE devices that use a Power over LAN Active Splitter, to continue to operate even when there is a power failure.
Power over LAN Active Splitter
The Power over LAN Active Splitter gives the Axis network video products that lack built-in support for Power over Ethernet, the ability to receive power over the network by splitting the data and power coming over the network cable. (With products such as the AXIS 211, which has built-in Power over Ethernet, the Power over LAN Active Splitter is not required.)
