Role of IR-cut filter:

Infrared light exists in nature at higher wavelengths that cannot be perceived by the human eye.

IR light is filtered away in the camera by an IR-cut filter in order to render an image that humans are used to. By removing the IR-cut filter when light conditions are too dark to render color images, the AXIS 221 can thus produce high quality black & white video using infrared light.
