HIGH SPEED LINE DRIVERS

THE 1200 SERIES
HIGH SPEED LINE DRIVER

The 1200 Series is family of high speed synchronous line drivers used at each end of a point-to-point communications link to provide a high bandwidth data path across extended distances of ordinary unshielded, twisted-pair (UTP) cabling. All models are available in stand-alone versions and some in rackmount versions, and with various T1 and fractional T1 data rates and transmission distances.  All models have front panel switches that enable diagnostic loopbacks, and all are equipped with surge protection components to help guard against transient voltages. All models other than the 1231 present a DCE user interface on a rear-panel DB25 female connector. They can use this DB25 connector to present an RS-530 interface, or can employ optional adapter cables to present a V.35 (M34) or RS-449 (DB37) interface.  We can modify any of these off-the-shelf line drivers to meet specific form-factor or bit-rate requirements of our customers.

HIGH SPEED LINE DRIVER SERIES

Model 1210 High Speed Line Driver

The Model 1210 High Speed Line Driver provides full or half-duplex data transfer across two twisted pairs at any one of four selectable data rates. Available speeds range from 48Kbps up to 76.8Kbps. Transmission distances range from 15,000 feet out to 20,000 feet, depending on data rate. Speed selection is accomplished with the settings of 4 dip switches accessible on the front panel. LED indicators on the front panel display the data rate and the current state of the Transmit Data (TX), Receive Data (RX), Request-to-Send (RTS) and Data Carrier Detect (CO) interface signals.

Model 1220/1221 High Speed Line Drivers

The Model 1220 and 1221 High Speed Line Drivers provide full or half-duplex data transfer across two twisted pairs at any one of five selectable data rates. The Model 1220 offers speeds in the range from 128Kbps up to 768Kbps in increments of Nx64Kbps. The Model 1221 offers speeds in the range from 112Kbps up to 672Kbps in increments of Nx56Kbps. Transmission distances range from 4,000 feet out to 10,000 feet, depending on data rate. Speed selection is accomplished with the settings of 5 dip switches accessible on the front panel. LED indicators on the front panel display the data rate and the current state of the Transmit Data (TX), Receive Data (RX), Request-to-Send (RTS) and Data Carrier Detect (CO) interface signals.

Model 1225 "Ten Speed" High Speed Line Driver

The Model 1225 High Speed Line Driver provides full or half-duplex data transfer across two twisted pairs at any one of ten selectable data rates. Available speeds range from 112Kbps up to 768Kbps in increments of both Nx56Kbps and Nx64Kbps. Transmission distances range from 4,000 feet out to 10,000 feet, depending on data rate. A rotary speed-selection switch and LED indicators located on the front panel can select and display the data rate and the current state of the Transmit Data (TX), Receive Data (RX), Request-to-Send (RTS) and Data Carrier Detect (CO) interface signals. The Model 1225 Line Driver is interoperable with the previous Model 1220 or 1221, as long as both are being operated at the same data rate.

Model 1230/1231 T1 Line Drivers

The Model 1230 and 1231 High Speed Line Drivers operate at a fixed T1 data rate, and provide full-duplex T1 data transfer across two twisted pairs at transmission distances out to 3,000 feet. The Model 1230 offers a V.35 user interface which is typical for high speed DTE and internetworking devices. The Model 1231 offers a DSX-1 interface which is more popular for PBX equipment and telco applications. The Model 1230 provides LED indicators on the front panel that display the current state of the Transmit Data (TX), Receive Data (RX), Request-to-Send (RTS) and Data Carrier Detect (CO) interface signals. The DSX-1 interface does not make use of RTS and CO, so the Model 1231 does not include these indicators, but it does include a DC Power indicator. The Model 1231 presents the DSX-1 user interface on a rear-panel DB15 female connector.

Model 1235 High Speed Line Driver

The Model 1235 High Speed Line Driver  provides full or half-duplex data transfer across two twisted pairs at any one of six selectable data rates.  Available speeds range from 64Kbps up to 768Kbps in increments of Nx64Kbps. Transmission distances range from 4,000 feet out to 11,000 feet, depending on data rate. Speed selection is accomplished with the settings of 5 internal dip switches on the logic board.  LED indicators on the front panel show when DC power is present, display the data rate and display the current state of the Transmit Data (TDX), Receive Data (RDX), Request-to-Send (RTS) and Data Carrier Detect (DCD) interface signals. The Model 1235 line driver is also available as the Model 1235R single-width rackmount card that fits into the series of Universal Mounting Chassis (UMC-3/5/6) card cages. The Model 1235 line driver is interoperable with the previous Model 1225, as long as both are being operated at the same data rate.

APPLICATIONS

The 1200 Series Line Drivers provide a high bandwidth communications capability across the existing infrastructure of UTP copper cabling, typically found in campus environments. This saves both the time and expense of having to install fiber optic cable or wireless communications equipment in order to achieve such bandwidth.

The most popular applications of our high speed line drivers have been to establish video tail-circuits out to distant conference rooms for video teleconferencing; to establish versatile, highly configurable connections between internetworking equipment (routers, bridges, switches) in large data centers; to extend a LAN out to a remote location; and to establish host-to-host connections or backbone connections for PBX equipment.

Customer Testimonial
Mr. Steve Wood, Telecom Manager for Hambrecht & Quist, a global, major investment banking company with headquarters in San Francisco, CA uses Model 1225 to connect their Video Conferencing Bridge located remotely on the 19th floor. Mr. Wood's comment on the Model 1225 installation: "Plug it in, turn it on , close the door, throw away the key and forget it! - very reliable."
